About DSC

Drumming For Social Change

Who We Are:
Gabriel and Brad
Drumming for Social Change is the brainchild of Brad Broomfield and Gabriel Globus-Hoenich, two musically diverse percussionists and teaching artists who are committed to researching world musics and using them to effect social change in the classroom and community.
Our Mission:

We use music and culture to create global bridges. We are envoys between cultures abroad and our community at home, traveling and researching around the world in order to create poignant and engaging curriculums at home. By sharing culture from around the world with our community we aim to create a sense of global unity, shared heritage, and commonality within the communities we serve as well as those we visit abroad.
How It All Began:
The seed for DSC was planted when Brad and Gabriel met each other in Philadelphia in 2012. After immediately recognizing a shared interest in drumming, multiculturalism, and community service, they began to brainstorm how they could combine their talents to aid their own communities and others abroad while staying true to their passions. Inspired by their own independent research in various countries, Brad and Gabriel decided to embark, together, on an educational trip to Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. For 6 months they began to plan their epic journey, which culminated in the initiation and success of a crowdfunded IndieGogo campaign. Thus, with the support of family, friends, and their community - Drumming for Social Change was born.
